Direcway & Wildblue Set to Square Off this Fall?

There is a cat fight brewing between Direcway LLC, Starband and Wildblue Communications for the large number of people in the U.S. who can't get some type of broadband internet and are willing to pay $50 or more to get better speeds. The combatants are telling investors there are 20-30 million "potential users" out there in rural or underserved America...true, but the historical fact of the matter is that up to now, only 500,000 or so have been willing to pay as much as $50-$100 a month for the "so called" high speed services offered by Direcway, Starband and now Wildblue. What has changed to stir all the press and advertising hubub by the companies? The claim is that both the Wildblue ka band and new Direcway 7000 offerings will finally give consumers a more DSL/Cable-like internet experience...ie lower latency and higher upload speeds. They expect that tens of millions of rural Americans will flock to their doors to pay over $50 per month to be "connected". To a degree they are right. It has become virtually impossible to funcion as a business without broadband internet and it is more and more difficult as a consumer to do without it. Even retailers (who obviously target consumers) are building sites that are very difficult to navigate unless you have a fast connection to the net. Pictures chew up bandwidth.

More and more people have found it less expensive to buy over the net...after all, we are nearing $2.50 gas now and who knows where it will end up. Imagine the cost of going to a store in a rural area in a vehicle that is getting 12 mpg (pickup with a V8) with $2.50 gas? Quick math says it would run you about $16.00 for an 80 mile round trip.....do that three or four times a month and buying at home from your easy chair starts looking pretty good. And you have time left over to plow a few fields if you like. Pretty easy picture to get. The problem is that all too many rural Americans already figured that buying from home is a good thing...they just do it by the old reliable U.S. mail order system. No computer or internet required.

The marketing effort by the "combatants" needs to focus on how much better the experience will be over the net. Perhaps they can throw in some instructions on how to overcome the fear of computers and typing as well. This is what I beleive is hampering the efforts to reach rural America by satellite internet...fear of the potential user of new ways of doing things. This is a generational thing...younger rural folks are going to find the internet the only way to travel in the future, but by that time WiMax should cover most of rural America with cable/dsl-like pricing and satellite dishes might be used as birdbaths.

The point of this piece is to arm investors....don't make a long term bet on Wildblue or Direcway! They will provide a bridge to up to 1,000,000 or so underserved rural consumers and could make a splash over the next two years or so, but they will never reach the vaulted numbers they strive for within a timeframe to make a large impact or long term profits in the rural underserved marketplace.

Typhoon Gonu - Category V to Slam Iran

The Iranian shoreline is about to get pounded by the worst Typhoon ever to hit the Arabian Shoreline in all of recorded history. Typhoon Gonu is on its way and will soon send storm surges up to 20 feet high. This is the most beautifully and perfectly formed Tropical Hurricane ever to hit the Gulf of Oman. This is a huge storm and over 350 miles wide in circulation, so large in fact it might completely flood the area and wash the debris out to sea.

This Super Typhoon will slow and even stop all flow of World Oil shipments and could raise oil prices in the US enough we might feel it at the pumps. Much of the World's Oil goes thru that passage way and everything is stopped while the Tropical Cyclone Super Typhoon Hurricane slams Iran.

Poor Iran has been the victim of horrific Earthquakes in the past and the wrath of Mother Nature, of course right now they are much more concerned with the United States Navy Battle Group off their coast than the largest, worst and most powerful Super Typhoon in the area in the history of mankind. The Super Typhoon is terrorizing Iran and supported by Mother Nature whose wrath has no limits.

It is estimated that a storm surge of water could go over 30 feet in the narrow area at the mouth of the Gulf of Oman and take out the facilities along the shoreline there and flood the surrounding areas with 10-35 inches of rain, much more than the area can handle.

Diabetes-Ignorance is Not Bliss

In a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive for Medtronic, Inc., they found that 67 percent of people incorrectly believed a cure existed for type 1 diabetes.

The survey also showed that nearly 80 percent of U.S. adults don't know the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes develops when the body's immune system destroys pancreatic beta cells, the only cells that make insulin, a hormone that regulates blood glucose. About 1 million Americans with type 1 diabetes are insulin dependent for survival.

Only half (fifty-one percent) of the survey respondents knew there were two types of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is non-insulin-dependent diabetes. It appears mostly in older adults, but it's on the rise in younger adults due to the exploding obesity rate in the United States. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90-95% of all diabetes cases in the U.S.

This is particularly disturbing in light of the fact that 90 % of type 2 diabetes can be prevented or reversed but can only happen if people have the knowledge of how to do it.

In the information age it seems appalling to me that so many people are ignorant of this disease which ruins so many lives not only in the United States but throughout the world.

Particularly in the case of diabetes, knowledge is the key to controlling the disease and prevention and reversing the disease as well. The drug companies and medical community needs to step up and do a better job of educating our misinformed public.

What Is The Final Result of Network Marketing?

Is Network Marketing All About The Money? What are the other main benefits, and does one benefit stand out above all others?

Many individuals get involved with network marketing because they want to make some extra money for their household. Some use the money for car payments, house payments, Christmas gifts, saving for children's education. They work their business part-time, and really have no desire for making their mlm a full-time endeavor.

Many individuals get involved with mlm because they have an ultimate goal of making it a full-time business. They are the entrepreneurial types that cannot see themselves working for someone else. Most entrepreneurial types do not function well in corporate environments mainly due to the fact that they just do not like taking orders from others.

Others go into network marketing because they want to reach a goal of having more freedom in their life. This freedom means more time with family, friends, and not having to spend it at a Big Corporate J.O.B. These individuals are not necessarily the entrepreneurial type. They are mainly looking forward to being able to move on to bigger and better things.

Also, others go into network marketing for the sole reason for financial independence. Network Marketing, if done properly can bring this independence. You must join a company with an excellent product. This product must be ordered at least monthly, and the network marketing company must have a very rewarding compensation plan.

Also, to achieve financial independence, you must grow your mlm using new tools and marketing techniques. The old days of calling friends, family, and colleagues are over. This works for very few. You must market your mlm via the internet.

To me, there is one benefit of network marketing that does stand out above all the rest. It is the relationships that you build. Some of these relationships will last a lifetime, and it is just amazing to me how people go out of their way to help others succeed.

Therefore, it really is everyone's responsibility to help others grow their mlm and succeed in this business, and realize that building relationships is really the most beneficial aspect of network marketing.

Why you Should Avoid Windows Vista Like the Plague (at Least for Now) Part 3

I've been talking in the first two parts of this series of three article about reasons you want to avoid getting the new Windows Vista. I called it a real turkey, and gave you two good reasons you shouldn't use it.

In this last in this series of articles, I'm going to give you a third reason that I don't think you should bother getting Vista, at least for a while.

Reason #3:

All the new features are old features stolen from Mac OS X, and not very well.

Microsoft has a history of stealing ideas and presenting them as their own -- all of the basic ideas behind Windows (having information displayed in one or more windows, having a desktop, having a recycle bin or trash can, using a mouse, etc.) were directly taken from the Mac after Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak (the co-founders of Apple) invited Bill Gates over to show off their new type of computer.

Bill took notes and ran back to Microsoft to copy it, and he's been doing it ever since.

The new version of Windows -- Windows Vista -- was supposed to come out years ago, but it got delayed and delayed, and finally was released around the beginning of 2007.

Back in 2004, Apple announced the then-new version of Mac OS X, OS 10.4 or "Tiger" (the "X" in Mac OS X is a Roman numeral 10, not a letter X by the way) at their developers conference.

Early in 2007, some internal emails were leaked from inside Microsoft that revealed that when one high-up employee from Microsoft was at the 2004 Apple Developers Conference, he was taking notes (just like Bill did all those years ago) and he confessed Microsoft had to take a lot of features of OS X from Apple to put into Vista.

He was also worried they wouldn't be able to do those features as well.

When Vista finally came out (two and a half years later) I remember watching the promotional video that showed off all of the supposedly new features of Vista.

Every single one was clearly a knock-off of features in the 2004 version of Mac OS X, and in my opinion, not very good knock-offs.

In fact, the Microsoft employee who wrote those leaked emails is on record saying that he'd use a Mac himself if he didn't work for Microsoft.

So why pay for recycled "new features" when they won't really do that much to improve your computer (and as I mentioned in an earlier email, are likely to slow it down) -- it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I won't deny that I like Macs better than PCs too -- and unlike a lot of people who are big supporters of one and bash the other, I am very familiar with both types of computer, and realize that neither type is perfect -- and I honestly think that 99% of the time, you're better off using a Mac than a Windows PC.

So if you're going to get a new computer, which you're better off doing if you're getting Vista, why not get the real deal instead of the pale imitation?

Just my opinion.
